What We Do
At Restorative Roots Project (RRP), we utilize Restorative Justice practices to heal and rebuild communities impacted by harm. Our survivor-centered programs aid in rehabilitation and reducing recidivism. Oregon SB 586 upholds confidentiality for participants in Restorative Justice programs and mediations.

A community circle is an RJ practice that provides a space for intentional communication to establish values, shared experiences, and to build relationships with people using a collective space. Community circles help build relationships and trust within a group. These promote deeper discussions and can broaden circle topics. They often include a topic prompt with multiple go-arounds giving everyone a choice to answer specific prompts. It encourages dialogue with the spirit to bring connection.
This includes;
For Individuals:
General community-building circles
Grieving Circles
Circles curated to fit the needs of the individuals
For Organizations:
General team-building circles

Mediation is a process where parties come together and discuss ways of finding a resolution to a specific incident. An Equity-Informed Mediator is trained to identify power differentials or inequities within the group dynamics that may be affecting communications and negotiations. They may pause to understand dynamics that lead to subtle acts of exclusion and may take measures to make repairs when/if harm is done. Equity-Informed Mediators will also be evaluative, transformative, or facilitative depending upon their style.

Our program evaluation uses the Integrated Organizational Psychology method, relying on the combination of science and practice to provide actionable information and achieve key organizational outcomes by improving performance, engaging employees and creating a more inclusive and communicative environment. This is best coupled with organization circles to be more effective and long-lasting.

We bring together the responsible person, the person harmed, and impacted community members into an accountability process that heals, builds, and strengthens relationships in the community. We use the Restorative Community Conferencing (RCC) model to bring everyone together to discuss what happened, including the causes and impacts of the harm that occurred. This process aims to create a healing plan that is person-centered and provides space for everyone to feel seen, heard, and walk away with their dignity intact. This program also seeks to shift the punitive paradigm that exists in the criminal legal system. This is our pre-indictment felony program in collaboration with MCDA and MPD.
